MIRI: A total of 282 road upgrading and maintenance projects have been carried out in the Pujut constituency from 2022 to 2026, covering a total distance of 29.56 kilometres with an allocation of RM11.1 million.
Miri City Mayor and Pujut Assemblyman Adam Yii Siew Sang said the projects were implemented in phases each year to improve infrastructure facilities and the comfort of residents.
He said that in 2022, 26 projects covering 8.38 kilometres were carried out with an allocation of RM2.4 million, followed by 48 projects spanning 6.95 kilometres in 2023 at a cost of RM2.776 million.
"In 2024, 81 projects involving 4.94 kilometres were carried out with an allocation of RM1.9 million, while in 2025, 113 projects spanning 4.19 kilometres cost RM2.13 million.
"For 2026, 14 projects covering about five kilometres are being implemented with an allocation of RM1.9 million," he said when speaking at the Rural Minor Projects (MRP) Presentation Ceremony for the Pujut DUN at the Pujut Community Service Centre here on Saturday.
According to Adam, the continuity of the projects shows that maintenance and infrastructure improvement works in the Pujut area are carried out on an ongoing basis, based on needs and annual planning.
Meanwhile, he reminded the public to be more vigilant against the misuse of social media, including the use of fake accounts, anonymous accounts, manipulated artificial intelligence (AI) content and cyberbullying.
He said the public needs to be more careful in evaluating social media content to prevent family members and friends from being influenced by manipulated information.
Adam also urged relevant parties, including the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), to monitor such content proactively and fairly to address social media misuse.
At the same ceremony, RM41,000 from the Minor Rural Project (MRP) allocation for Pujut was channelled to 15 associations and organisations to support various activities and the needs of the local community.
Among the recipients were the Piasau Link Traditional Archery Club, Speed Chasers Motorsports Club, Kampung Piasau Utara Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK), Miri Chinese Charitable Trust Board, Miri Innovative Recreation Club (KRIM), Miri District Education Office and the Parent-Teacher Association of Sekolah Kebangsaan Pendidikan Khas Miri. -UKASnews
