MDMD Urged To Strengthen Integrity, Prevent Abuse Of Power
DARO: Integrity, transparency and accountability must form the foundation of service delivery at the Matu and Daro District Council (MDMD) to ensure that every decision and administrative matter is carried out with trust and without abuse of power.
Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya said the local authority's staff must uphold integrity in every task, including the management of finances, records, assets and procurement.
He said integrity is not merely about complying with rules, but must be demonstrated through honesty, discipline, adherence to procedures and the delivery of services that are fair, transparent and responsible.
He said that as an agency that deals directly with the public, MDMD must ensure that the interests of the people are always prioritised in every decision and action.
He said this when officiating the MDMD Integrity Week 2026 themed "Integrity at the Core of Service, MDMD Progresses Together" at Dewan Masyarakat Daro on Thursday.
The Jemoreng Assemblyman also reminded MDMD staff to avoid abuse of power and conflicts of interest, and to make trust and accountability a continuous practice.
He welcomed the organisation of the Integrity Week, which combines elements of strengthening service ethics with aspects of health, welfare and social responsibility.
Datuk Dr Juanda hoped that the values of integrity instilled through the programme would continue to be practised in every task and action, thereby shaping responsible staff who serve as role models for the community.
Among the programme's activities were an integrity and corruption talk by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), the Drug-Free Workplace Programme (TEKAD) in collaboration with the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) Mukah Division, a mental health talk, a basic life support talk and a Blood Donation Campaign.
Also present were Daro District Officer Zul Usop, Matu District Officer Hamidah Halpi and MDMD Secretary Chiong Siew Ping. -UKASnews
