KUCHING: Increased state revenue through disciplined economic management enables the Sarawak Government to continue strengthening the welfare of the people, while ensuring sustainable development for the well-being of future generations.
Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol said the Sarawak Budget 2027 reflects the government's commitment to ensuring that state revenue is utilised to the fullest for the benefit of the community across all age groups.
He said the increase in state revenue gives the government room to expand various welfare and development initiatives, particularly for the young, senior citizens and future generations.
"As our income grows, the Premier will try to channel as much of that revenue as possible towards the welfare of the people of Sarawak, especially in terms of the sustainability of our future," he said.
He said this when met by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) journalists at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) on Monday.
Datuk Abdullah also stressed that political stability and the harmony of a multiracial and multireligious society are among the important factors that enable focus to be given to economic development and improving the quality of public service.
He said prudent and responsible financial management must continue to be strengthened to ensure that every increase in state revenue is translated into comprehensive and lasting benefits for the people.
Meanwhile, he said Sarawak has great potential to explore new sources of income through the sustainable use of natural resources, including the development of the digital economy, environmental conservation and water resource management.
He explained that the approach is important in strengthening the state's economic resilience, while ensuring that the resources owned today continue to benefit future generations.
Earlier, Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg tabled the RM14.845 billion Sarawak Budget 2027, with emphasis on state development, particularly in rural areas.
The budget, themed 'Together Building Prosperity and Securing Our Future', comprises RM5.747 billion for operating expenditure, while RM9.098 billion is allocated to the Development Fund Account. -UKASnews
