Native Courts Ordinance 1992 Under Review By Sarawak Attorney-General’s Chambers
KUCHING: The proposed amendment to the Native Courts Ordinance 1992 is currently under review by the Sarawak State Attorney-General’s Chambers.
Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai noted that the review of the draft is vital to ensure the proposed changes can be implemented while addressing the current needs and challenges faced by the Native Courts of Sarawak.
“This review is an important step toward strengthening the institution of the Native Courts of Sarawak and supporting the effective administration of justice,” he said.
He said this when delivering his ministrial winding-up speech at the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sitting here on Monday.
Elaborating further, he gave an assurance that the Sarawak Government remains committed to ensuring the proposed amendments safeguard the customs and traditions of the native community.
“While awaiting the finalisation and enforcement of these amendments, the Sarawak Native Courts will continue to operate under the existing legal framework,” he added. — UKASnews
