RM88.99 Million Stutong Link & Roundabout Upgrade To Ease Traffic Congestion In Kuching
KUCHING: The site handover ceremony for the upgrading project of Jalan Stutong Link and the Stutong Roundabout, valued at RM88.99 million, was held on Monday under the witness of Deputy Premier of Sarawak and Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
The infrastructure project aims to enhance transport network efficiency, streamline traffic flow, and strengthen road safety standards across the Stutong area and its surroundings.
Spanning a 3.311-kilometre stretch, the project will upgrade Jalan Stutong Link to JKR U5 standards, including widening the existing single-carriageway into a dual carriageway to accommodate higher traffic capacity.
Key components of the project involve converting the Stutong Roundabout into a signalized intersection to improve traffic management at a major commuter bottleneck.
Additionally, the scope of work features the construction of a new 90-metrr reinforced concrete bridge crossing Sungai Stutong, complete with bridge access structures and retaining walls.
Other scheduled works encompass pavement improvements, earthworks, road furniture installation, drainage systems, street lighting, traffic lights, and utility relocation.
To maintain connectivity during construction, temporary diversion routes, temporary street lighting, and traffic management measures will be implemented to minimize public disruption.
The project has been awarded to Ibraco Construction Sdn. Bhd. as the appointed contractor, with Jurutera CSD Sdn. Bhd. serving as the project consultant.
Scheduled on a 24-month contract timeline, construction will officially commence on 20 October 2026 and is expected to reach completion by 19 October 2028.
Upon completion, the upgraded infrastructure is projected to significantly reduce traffic congestion and provide a safer, more comfortable, and efficient commuting experience for residents and motorists in Kuching.
JKR Sarawak remains fully committed to monitoring the project continuously to ensure it adheres strictly to technical specifications, quality standards, and scheduled delivery timelines, while calling for public cooperation throughout the construction period. - UKASnews
