1,059 Applications For New KMKK Posts Under Evaluation
KUCHING: A total of 1,059 applications for the creation of new Community and Village Leader (KMKK) positions across Sarawak are currently under evaluation to ensure administrative needs and service delivery to local communities can be met more effectively.
Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai said all applications received from various divisions across the state are being carefully reviewed before being submitted for consideration and approval.
According to him, the evaluation takes into account several key factors, including the size of administrative areas, population growth, housing increases, and the establishment of new settlements.
“Among the factors considered are the size of the area of jurisdiction, the increase in the number of houses and population, the construction of villages and longhouses, as well as the opening of new settlements,” he said.
He said this when delivering his ministerial winding-up speech at the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sitting here on Monday.
Dato Sri John Sikie noted that accessibility challenges to certain areas are also given due attention, particularly remote settlements that can only be reached via air transport, riverways, or challenging terrain.
He added that mountainous landscapes and distances between settlements are also key considerations when assessing the need to establish new KMKK posts. — UKASnews
