Long Banga, Ba’kelalan STOLport Upgrades To Be Implemented In 2027
KUCHING: The Federal Government has approved upgrade projects for the Long Banga and Ba’kelalan STOLports for implementation in 2027 under the Airport Development Fund (ADF).
Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said the approval was secured through his ministry’s continued efforts, including discussions and technical assessments with the Ministry of Transport Malaysia.
He said the upgrade works would cover improvements to terminal facilities, as well as runway improvements or extensions, where appropriate based on site conditions and technical assessments.
“These improvements are expected to enhance operational capabilities, aviation safety and air connectivity for rural communities in the affected areas,” he said.
He was delivering his ministry’s winding-up speech at the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly Sitting here on Monday.
In a related development, Dato Sri Lee said several other airport and STOLport development initiatives in Sarawak were also progressing according to schedule.
These included upgrade works at Limbang Airport and Bario STOLport, as well as proposed developments at Lawas Airport and Bebuling STOLport.
He stressed that these efforts reflected the state government’s continued commitment to strengthening and modernising aviation infrastructure throughout Sarawak. -UKASnews
