Dato Sri Nancy Welcomes New Faces, Increase In Female Candidates
KUCHING: Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Dato Sri Nancy Shukri has welcomed the possibility of new faces, including an increase in female candidates, contesting the 13th Sarawak State Election.
She said decisions on the candidates to be fielded rested with the respective political parties, adding that she respected every decision made.
“There are new faces, and we welcome whatever decisions the respective parties make. We respect whoever is chosen,” she told reporters after officiating at the closing ceremony and launch of WEAVE 2026, themed ‘From Heritage Hands to Global Opportunities’, here on Saturday.
According to Dato Sri Nancy, there was a possibility of more female candidates being fielded, but this could not be confirmed until the nomination process, as changes could occur right up to the last minute.
“As for female candidates, I have heard that there may be an increase, but we do not know yet. In politics, we will not know for sure until the nomination stage approaches,” she said.
She said the most important thing was for Sarawak to have capable candidates who could take the state to greater heights while supporting its development agenda.
She added that the main focus in facing the state election was to continue development efforts and build on the progress already achieved in Sarawak. -UKASnews
