JKM Ready To Provide Counselling Services If Needed
KUCHING: The Social Welfare Department (JKM) is ready to provide counselling services to the children involved and their families should such assistance be required.
Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Dato Sri Nancy Shukri said JKM did not want to rush into offering the services, as the matter was still under police investigation and the families concerned needed space to regain their composure.
“We are ready to assist if needed, but we do not want to rush into providing our services as the matter may still be under police investigation. Therefore, we need to give them space to calm down,” she said.
She told reporters this after attending the WEAVE 2026 programme here on Saturday.
She said JKM took the matter seriously and was prepared to provide assistance if required.
According to Dato Sri Nancy, the children would not be placed in JKM institutions if they still had families, unless there were specific circumstances requiring further action through the court process.
Meanwhile, she said JKM was also ready to assist teachers and classmates who might be affected, if necessary, while taking into account the role of counsellors within educational institutions.
“We respect the education authorities, which have their own counsellors and with whom we sometimes work together. However, we want to give the relevant authorities the opportunity to take the lead.
“If they also need our help, God willing, we will provide assistance,” she added. -UKASnews
