MASOC 2027 Expands Promotional Tour To Rural & Remote Areas
KUALA LUMPUR: The promotional campaign for the 34th SEA Games and 14th ASEAN Para Games will be extended to the Eastern, Northern and Southern Zones to ensure that rural and remote communities also gain first-hand exposure ahead of the regional sporting events in September 2027.
MASOC 2027 Chief Executive Officer Datuk Abdul Rashid Yaakub said the tour was not merely about introducing the sporting events, but also about providing people from diverse backgrounds with opportunities to experience the spirit of the SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games.
“We want the spirit of 2027 to be felt by all Malaysians, not just those in major cities, but also those in rural and remote areas.
“The zonal tour provides MASOC with an opportunity to engage directly with communities, raise awareness and build public support for the sporting events we will be hosting,” he said in a statement here on Saturday.
According to the statement, the tour began in Kuala Lumpur with an open-truck parade showcasing the official identity of the sporting events at five strategic locations: Pasar Seni (Central Market), The Exchange TRX, Bukit Bintang, Dataran Merdeka and the Petronas Twin Towers (KLCC).
Various activities were also held at selected locations, including meet-and-greet sessions with national athletes, appearances by the official mascots, performances by marching bands and cheerleading squads, interactive sports-themed games, and souvenir giveaways to encourage public participation.
Datuk Abdul Rashid said MASOC 2027 had previously promoted the sporting events through its participation in the KIBAR, MADANI Kita and Le Tour de Langkawi programmes.
“We began our community engagement efforts through MASOC booths at KIBAR, MADANI Kita and Le Tour de Langkawi.
“This zonal tour will build on that momentum to spread the message of the 2027 sporting events more widely, including to communities in the most remote parts of the country,” he said.
Malaysia will host the 34th SEA Games and 14th ASEAN Para Games from 18 to 29 September 2027, with the events organised across four main clusters: Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak, Penang and Johor.
Anchored by the aspiration ‘Celebrate Unity’, the hosting of the events will focus not only on the smooth running of competitions and athletes’ achievements, but also on the importance of community participation and the creation of a sporting legacy that can strengthen regional unity. -UKASnews
