STEM Proficiency Crucial To Prepare Young Generation For New Economy
SIBURAN: The younger generation must be equipped with knowledge and skills in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) to adapt to economic changes and meet the demands of future industries.
Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said greater emphasis on quality education is important to develop a highly skilled generation capable of adapting to technological advancements and the state's economic transformation.
According to him, education approaches must continue to evolve in line with changing working methods and the needs of emerging industries, which increasingly demand proficiency in STEM-related knowledge and skills.
"Our policy is to ensure we continue to improve the quality of education and knowledge among the younger generation. They are our future and our hope," he said.
He said this when speaking at the Serian Division SJKC Jogathon 2026, held at the SJKC Tapah Hall, here on Sunday.
Dato Sri Roland Sagah added that close cooperation between parents, schools and the community is crucial to ensure children receive the best possible education to prepare them for future challenges.
Therefore, he encouraged all parties to continue prioritising education development and skills enhancement among young people to support Sarawak's development aspirations.
Meanwhile, he also highlighted the Sarawak Government's initiative to provide free tertiary education through the Sarawak Free Tertiary Education Scheme (FTES), covering 64 academic programmes at participating state-owned higher education institutions.
He stressed that the initiative would provide greater opportunities for eligible Sarawakians to pursue higher education irrespective of race or religion.
Earlier, Organising Committee Chairman Allan Lee Chun Lun said the jogathon aimed to raise funds for nine Chinese primary schools in Serian Division, particularly to support education needs and improve school facilities.
Also present were Serian Division Chinese Primary Schools Cultural Committee Chairman Chai Chon Sung, Siburan District Council Deputy Chairman Neuchlos Jub, Penghulu Voon Min Sen as well as representatives from schools and the local community. -UKASnews
