Sarawak Government Supports Operational Needs & Facilities Of Third Brigade
KUCHING: The Sarawak Government continues to strengthen its support for the operational needs and infrastructure development of the Malaysian Third Infantry Brigade (3rd Brigade) through the provision of surveillance equipment and the implementation of infrastructure projects for military personnel in the state.
Commander of the 3rd Brigade Brigadier General Zulkininie said the support is crucial in helping the brigade carry out its security responsibilities while ensuring the welfare of personnel and the adequacy of facilities at military camps.
"Among the matters discussed was the construction of a car park at Salahuddin Mosque in Penrissen Camp, which is expected to proceed following approval from the state authorities in January 2027.
"In addition, the construction of a new mosque at the 11th Royal Malay Regiment (11 RMD) in Semenggoh, costing approximately RM2.4 million, is now 70 per cent complete," he said.
He said this during a press conference after leading a 3rd Brigade delegation on a courtesy call on Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg at the Satria Pertiwi Complex on Wednesday.
According to Brigadier General Zulkininie, the meeting provided an opportunity to formally introduce himself after assuming command of the 3rd Brigade about two months ago, as well as to brief the Sarawak Premier on the brigade's roles, operations and requirements.
"Today I took the opportunity to introduce myself as the new Commander of the 3rd Brigade and inform the Sarawak Premier about the role, implementation of the operation, the allocation received from the Sarawak Government and the support that can be given to the personnel of the 3rd Brigade at Penrissen Camp,” he said.
He added that the meeting also touched upon the potential involvement of special forces in the state's tourism programme, particularly parachuting activities that had previously attracted participants from Malaysia and abroad.
According to him, the proposal could be considered for inclusion in future state tourism programmes, including activities that could potentially be held in Sibu. -UKASnews
