Development & Economic Achievements To Be Key Factors In 13th Sarawak State Election
KUCHING: The state government's development track record, economic strengthening efforts and implementation of initiatives benefiting the people are expected to be among the key factors voters will consider in determining the state government in the 13th Sarawak State Election (PRN13).
Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the leadership of Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg since 2017 had brought about major changes that had significantly impacted the state's development and people's lives.
He said key achievements included successful negotiations under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), the takeover of Bintulu Port, the establishment of Sarawak's sovereign wealth fund, as well as the development of the Coastal Highway and 22 bridges, which had served as catalysts for change in the state.
“These are initiatives that have brought about changes which have had a direct impact on the people.
“That is why I believe the current government is a truly good government,” he said when commenting on preparations for the Sarawak State Election during a press conference at Bangunan Baitulmakmur II here on Friday.
Dato Sri Abdul Karim added that infrastructure development, particularly the Coastal Highway and the construction of 22 bridges in less than five years, represented major changes that the people could directly experience, especially in terms of improved connectivity between areas.
He also highlighted the implementation of assistance for women who give birth, free higher education and the strengthening of Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS) as among the initiatives to enhance Sarawak's position.
As such, he said voters should assess candidates and political parties based on their track records in realising the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) to transform Sarawak into a high-income state. -UKASnews
