Car Free Morning Encourages Healthy & Low-Carbon Lifestyle
SARIKEI: Efforts to promote a greener and more sustainable urban environment continue in Sarikei as the Sarikei District Council (MDS) prepares to host the Car Free Morning (Low Carbon Day 3.0) programme on 15 November.
The initiative aims to raise public awareness on the importance of reducing carbon emissions while encouraging healthy and active lifestyle habits among local residents.
MDS Chairman, Councillor Stephen Wong Kie Yong, said the programme forms part of the council’s ongoing commitment to support the development of a low-carbon township within the district.
“Through the various activities planned, we hope the community will become more conscious of climate change issues and play their part in turning Sarikei into a low-carbon city,” he said.
Among the highlights lined up for participants are the Used Cooking Oil Collection Campaign, 'Hari Bersama Pelanggan', and the 'Misi Sarikei Hijau' game challenge.
Registration for the programme, limited to 100 participants, is open from 18 October to 8 November 2025 with a fee of RM20 per person.
The 'Misi Sarikei Hijau' activity will feature six checkpoints, including Dewan Suarah, Taman Merdeka, Doremart Pasar Borong, Terminal Satu and Pasar Sentral.
Both the start and finish points will be located at the MDS Office between 7.30 a.m. and 9.30 a.m.
Meanwhile, the Used Cooking Oil Collection Campaign and Hari Bersama Pelanggan will be held at the MDS compound from 8.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m.
Members of the public are encouraged to bring used cooking oil for recycling, which is a small yet meaningful step toward environmental conservation.
Stephen Wong expressed hope that the programme will spark a stronger sense of responsibility toward reducing motor vehicle dependency and inspire more environmentally conscious behaviour among the community.
He added that the initiative is in line with broader efforts to make Sarikei a cleaner, greener, and healthier urban hub for all. -UKASnews
