Waterfront Project To Transform Bintangor Riverbank
BINTANGOR: The Bintangor riverfront is set for a major transformation under a new development project, in line with the Sarawak Government’s efforts to strengthen infrastructure and elevate Pesta Meradong 2025 as a signature attraction drawing visitors from near and far.
Tanjong Manis MP, Dato Yusuf Abd Wahab said the festival’s revival this year represents more than entertainment, it is a community-driven platform to showcase local culture, unity and entrepreneurship.
“This festival allows locals and visitors to experience the richness of our diverse cultures while contributing to the growth of the local economy,” he said when officiating the Pesta Meradong 2025 opening ceremony on Saturday.
Dato Yusuf noted that this marks the second edition of the festival since its rebranding from Pesta Bintangor to Pesta Meradong, symbolising the district’s renewed identity as a progressive and competitive area.
He added that the festival serves as a bridge of unity through a variety of programmes in sports, culture, entrepreneurship, health and education, benefiting residents across all backgrounds.
A total of 21 events were held under eight main clusters, including the Strongman Competition, Pekit Kumang Ngepan Iban, Lantern and Float Parade, and Chinese Cultural Night, each celebrating the district’s vibrant multiculturalism.
More than 100 stalls were also set up, giving local entrepreneurs the opportunity to market their products and stimulate the local economy.
Dato Yusuf further announced that the Sarawak Government, through the Rajang Delta Development Agency (RADDA), is implementing the Bintangor Waterfront Project, which will beautify the riverbank and serve as a strategic venue for future major events.
“Upgrading sports and recreational facilities such as the sports complex, basketball courts, and public parks will ensure that future editions of Pesta Meradong are better organised and have greater impact on the community,” he added. -UKASnews
