GPS Leaders Extend Support To Long Loyang Fire Victims
MIRI: The recent fire tragedy in Long Loyang, Ulu Tinjar, continues to receive strong attention from local leaders as Baram MP, Dato Anyi Ngau, and Telang Usan Assemblyman, Dato Dennis Ngau, visited the affected community on Friday to offer support and check on immediate relief efforts.
The fire, which broke out at Block C of the Long Loyang longhouse on 10 November around 8.00pm, destroyed a row of rooms and left 22 families homeless, while claiming the life of one resident.
The incident has left a deep emotional impact on the rural community, many of whom are now relying on temporary assistance to rebuild their lives.
During the visit, the leaders met with affected families, listened to their concerns and inspected the damage at the site.
They emphasised that the state and federal leadership remain committed to ensuring that affected households receive the necessary support as they navigate the post-disaster phase.
Various government agencies and non-governmental organisations have already stepped in to provide immediate aid, including essential supplies, emergency shelter and welfare assistance.
The coordinated response aims to stabilise the situation while longer-term recovery plans are assessed.
The presence of both leaders reflects GPS’ commitment to safeguarding the wellbeing of rural communities, especially during times of crisis.
Also present during the visit were Beluru District Officer, Charles Aloysius Lisu, PDP National Youth Chief, David Yeo Ang Lim, and Village Chief, KK Pius Balan Avon. -UKASnews
