Libraries As Community Hubs Highlighted At ‘Library With Community Day’
MIRI: Libraries must continue evolving as inclusive and dynamic community hubs that connect people through knowledge, creativity and lifelong learning, said Miri Mayor and Pujut Assemblyman Adam Yii Siew Sang.
Speaking when officiating the “Library With Community Day” organised by the Library Section of Miri City Council (MCC) at Myymall, Lutong, he said modern libraries are more than repositories of books, functioning instead as safe and engaging spaces that strengthen intergenerational ties and nurture human development.
He added that MCC remains committed to sustainable and people-centred services, noting that supporting literacy and community programmes is an investment in human capital and essential to shaping a competitive and resilient Miri.
“The event strengthens engagement between the local authority and residents, encouraging shared responsibility in building a united and progressive city,” he said.
The day-long programme featured the Library Activity Rewards 2025, Most Active Member Awards, colouring contest, Library Loyalty Rewards 2025 presentation and a creative costume competition for children.
Visitors also took part in activities such as the recycled-material costume challenge, Book Face Challenge, Info Hunt, 5R exhibition and 3D pen and 3D printing demonstrations.
Adam Yii expressed appreciation to librarians, staff, volunteers and partners for their continuous role in promoting literacy and community involvement.
“Together, let us build a knowledgeable, united and sustainable Miri,” he said before officially launching the event. -UKASnews
