Stars Speak From The Heart As AIFFA 2025 Winners Share Passion, Purpose & Love
KUCHING: The ASEAN International Film Festival and Awards (AIFFA) 2025 Press Conference brought raw emotion, humour and heartfelt reflections as regional icons and rising stars spoke about their love for cinema and the significance of being recognised on the ASEAN stage.
Filipino filmmaker Lav Diaz, recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award, reminded the room that cinema remains the soul of the festival.
He reflected on a conversation with a fellow filmmaker years ago, recalling that “cinema has already changed the world,” and emphasised that its impact continues to shape societies today.
Hong Kong legend Simon Yam, honoured with the ASEAN Inspiration Award, delivered an energetic message about his lifelong devotion to film.
He said his “heart, soul and body” belong to the industry and credited young filmmakers for giving him renewed inspiration. “Stay hungry, be creative, and stay curious,” he urged.
Malaysia’s Sweet Qismina, winner of Best Supporting Actress, thanked AIFFA for recognising her work among strong contenders from across the region.
She said she has been acting since childhood and remains committed to growing as an artist.
She also expressed hope that her win would open doors for more international collaborations involving Malaysian talents.
Sarawak’s own Michelle Lungan expressed pride in welcoming participants to her home state.
She thanked AIFFA for creating a platform that brings ASEAN creatives together and said meeting icons like Simon Yam was a powerful reminder to “stay brave” and continue pushing boundaries.
She ended her remarks with a nod to filmmaker Ron Pallare: “Long live film.”
The press conference concluded on a high note as winners celebrated not only their achievements but also the growing role of Sarawak in elevating regional cinema. -UKASnews
