MBKS Hands Over Upgraded Stools At Kenyalang Park Market, Strengthening Comfort & Accessibility
KUCHING: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has handed over the newly upgraded market stools at Kenyalang Park Market, marking another step in improving comfort and safety for one of the city’s busiest community markets.
MBKS Deputy Mayor Dato Zaiedi Suhaili officiated the handover, attended by councillors, council officers, Market Liaison Committees, contractors and hawkers.
The upgrade replaces 728 ageing pedestal seats that had become worn after decades of use.
They have been fully dismantled and substituted with new hot-dipped galvanised steel pedestals fitted with 380mm fibreglass seats, providing greater durability and easier maintenance.
Costing RM105,640, the project supports MBKS’s ongoing commitment to enhancing market facilities under its Love Your Market initiative.
Dato Zaiedi said the improvements reflect the council’s effort to create cleaner and more comfortable environments for customers, ultimately encouraging stronger patronage and supporting hawkers’ livelihood.
In line with MBKS’s role in the WHO Global Network for Age-Friendly Cities, the council has also added 30 priority seats with backrests designed for elderly and mobility-challenged users, ensuring that Kenyalang Park Market remains accessible to all members of the community.
He encouraged hawkers and market-goers to care for the new facilities so that the upgraded seating can serve the public effectively for many years. -UKASnews
