SeBorneo Takraw Open Boosts Lawas As Growing Sports Hub
LAWAS: The Jaguh Lipat Takraw SeBorneo Open 2025 kicked off at Gelanggang Arena Lawas, strengthening Lawas’ position as an emerging sports hub in northern Sarawak.
Officiated by Political Secretary to the Sarawak Premier, Awangku Jinal Abedin Dato Pengiran Jawa, the event gathered 24 participating teams from across the region.
In his remarks, Awangku Jinal said Lawas continues to progress under the GPS Government, describing the district as “a small jewel that shines brightly” due to its strategic location and ongoing development.
He noted that major projects such as the new 16-storey Sarawak Government Administrative Complex, the new Lawas Hospital, clinics, bridges and various public facilities are already taking shape.
He added that longstanding utility issues are expected to improve once Lawas’ connection to the main power grid is completed.
Awangku Jinal also highlighted plans for a new multi-sports facility led by Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Lawas Member of Parliament, Dato Henry Sum Agong, aimed at developing youth talent and promoting Lawas as a sports tourism destination.
He encouraged players to uphold the heritage of sepak takraw through skillful gameplay while giving their best for their respective teams. -UKASnews
