Betong Regatta 2026 Showcases Sportsmanship & Community Unity
BETONG: The 2026 edition of the Betong Regatta continued in high spirits on its second day, featuring fierce competition among racers that showcased both sporting spirit and community unity.
The thrill of the race was evident during the Heat B Boat Races for the Bidar 6, 7, 10, and 12 categories, as participants demonstrated high levels of commitment and impressive competitiveness, spurred on by the cheers of visitors who packed the event grounds.
Sarawak Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development and Layar Assemblyman Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu was present to witness the events during the Regatta’s Main Pavilion at the Betong Waterfront.
Also in attendance was Betong District Officer and Chairman of the Organising Committee Laga Kueh to observe the race flag-offs.
In addition to the main races, the Betong Regatta 2026 was further enlivened by various fringe activities, including flower arrangement competitions, colouring contests for both children and adults, and handicraft competitions held at the Kampung Baru Betong Hall.
Organised by the Community Development Department (KEMAS) Betong Division, these programmes serve as a platform to encourage community participation in arts and culture-based activities while highlighting the talent and creativity of the local population.
Datuk Gerald Rentap, alongside other guests of honour, also spent time interacting with participants and visitors before officiating the prize-giving ceremony for the winners.
In the afternoon, he officiated the Sarawakku Sayang Agro Sales Programme for the Layar constituency, held within the compound of the Kampung Baru Betong Hall.
The programme was organised by the Ministry of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Sarawak in collaboration with the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA), aimed at helping the public obtain food supplies at affordable prices in line with government efforts to strengthen national food security. -UKASnews
