Efforts To Document Sarawak’s Ethnic History & Culture Must Be Intensified
SIBU: Efforts to document the history of the struggle and culture in Sarawak must be intensified to ensure they are preserved and serve as a guide for future generations.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof stated that there is still much history that has yet to be documented, particularly outside of the Peninsula, which requires the involvement of various parties to record past experiences and events.
"There is still a lot of history that has not been sketched out and not much history has been documented.
"This is what is needed from all of us, especially those who have the experience to collectively record whatever past histories exist," he said.
He said this while speaking at the launch of the book “Secebis Kisah Perjuangan Bangsa: Ikhlasnya Pengorbanan Indahnya Kemerdekaan” at Tanahmas Hotel, Sibu, on Saturday.
Datuk Amar Fadillah, who is also the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, emphasised that such documentation should not be limited solely to the struggle for independence but should also encompass aspects of national culture and the ethnic diversity that forms the foundation of social harmony in the state.
Therefore, he encouraged active involvement from Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP), cultural associations, language associations, and graduate associations in Sibu to collaborate with existing universities to conduct in-depth research on the lives of the local community.
Also present at the ceremony were the wife of the Deputy Prime Minister Datin Amar Ruziah Mohd Tahir, corporate figure Tan Sri Bustari Yusuf, Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development I Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, Daro Assemblyman Dr Safiee Ahmad, Director-General of DBP Hazami Jahari, Resident of Sibu Division Abang Mohamad Porkan Abang Budiman, representative of the late author's family Madina Hamdan and other invited guests. — UKASnews
