SCALE Strengthens STEM & Interactive Learning In Sarawak
KUCHING: Sarawak has taken another significant step in its digital education transformation with the introduction of the Sarawak Collaborative Learning Interactive Experience (SCALE), an interactive platform designed to empower teachers and enhance the quality of learning for students across the state.
Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said SCALE marks an important move towards making learning more interactive and accessible, helping teachers plan lessons, monitor progress and support students in a more personalised way.
“SCALE will reinforce learning in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) by encouraging students to explore ideas and learn through hands-on activities that nurture critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
“It also helps bridge the learning gap by giving students in both rural and urban areas equal access to resources and opportunities,” he said.
He said this during the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) exchange ceremony between the Sarawak Government, Pertubuhan Aspirasi Guru Sarawak (PAGS) and Arc Technologies Sdn Bhd for the implementation of SCALE, held at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Complex on Monday.
Elaborating further, Dato Sri Roland Sagah said SCALE also complements the Ujian Penilaian Dual Language Programme Sarawak (UP-DLP), which provides comprehensive data on students’ performance in Science and Mathematics.
According to him, findings from the UP-DLP offer a clear picture of students’ strengths and challenges, enabling teachers to design more accurate and holistic learning interventions.
“The UP-DLP results offer valuable insights, and the outcomes for Science and Mathematics indicate that there is still work to be done to strengthen STEM education.
“By aligning UP-DLP findings with SCALE and other initiatives, we can offer a more targeted and effective learning experience for students,” he said.
He emphasised that STEM learning helps students develop curiosity, collaborative skills and confidence, qualities that support further education and future careers.
As such, he said the Sarawak Government will continue expanding STEM pathways, aiming for a 60 per cent participation rate by 2030, supported by initiatives such as SCALE and enhanced teacher development.
Also present were MEITD Deputy Ministers Datuk Dr Annuar Rapa’ee and Datuk Francis Harden Hollis, MEITD Permanent Secretary Datu Adana Jed, Sarawak Foundation Director Datu Mohamad Junaidi Mohidin, Sarawak State Education Department (JPNS) Director Omar Mahli, PAGS President Mutalib Kassim, Arc Technologies Sdn Bhd Director James Ling and the company’s Chief Operating Officer Hii Ding Sin. -UKASnews
