150 Business Events Secured For 2025-2030, Over RM445 Million In Economic Impact Expected
KUCHING: Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak) continues to position Sarawak as a preferred destination for business events, successfully securing 150 confirmed events scheduled between 2025 and 2030.
Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the achievement is expected to generate a total economic impact of RM445.3 million.
“These events are expected to generate a total economic impact of RM445.3 million, with direct delegate expenditure of RM247.45 million and RM27.32 million in tax revenue,” he said during his ministerial winding-up session at the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sitting on Tuesday.
Dato Sri Abdul Karim explained that throughout 2025, the state successfully hosted 130 business events, generating RM413 million in total economic impact, with direct delegate expenditure amounting to RM224.53 million and RM24.78 million in taxes.
For 2026, he said BESarawak has secured several major events, notably the Asian Congress on Occupational Health 2026 as well as the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) Triennial General Assembly 2026.
In addition, Sarawak has won the bid to host the International Council on Archives Conference 2027.
Dato Sri Abdul Karim said the global business events industry is increasingly focusing on legacy impact, which is the long-term positive change created by an event, and Sarawak is recognised as one of the most advanced and developed legacy-driven destinations in the world.
In this regard, he informed that BESarawak has successfully developed the A-I LEGACY Intelligent Impact Management System to measure the alignment of business events to the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“Using this system, 10 events have been verified and included in the Sarawak Legacy Destination Report presented recently at IBTM Barcelona, the event where the global meetings and event industry leaders meet,” he added. -UKASnews
