MELAKA: The Sarawak Protocol, Ceremony and Event Management Unit (UPPANS) continued its study trip to the Historic City of Melaka with a series of official visits to the Melaka Department of National Culture and Arts (JKKN) and the Proclamation of Independence Memorial in Banda Hilir on Thursday.
The 11-member delegation was led by UPPANS Director, Datu Hamdan Sharbini.
Upon arrival at the JKKN Melaka Complex in Ayer Keroh, the team was received by JKKN Melaka Director, Ezlina Alias, Deputy Director Fiza Farikha Md. Yassin and agency staff.
During a briefing session, the delegation was presented with an overview of JKKN Melaka’s roles, including cultural management, implementation of the National Cultural Policy 2021, Melaka’s status as a UNESCO World Heritage City, and the state’s collection of cultural masterworks.
Both sides also exchanged views and explored potential future collaborations, particularly in event management, culture, and heritage.
The visit included a tour of JKKN facilities such as the seminar room, Panggung Seri Auditorium and dance studio, where delegates were treated to cultural performances representing three key Melaka communities which are Melayu Melaka, Chetti and Portuguese.
The programme continued with a courtesy visit to the Proclamation of Independence Memorial in Banda Hilir, where the delegation was welcomed by Melaka State Archivist, Mohd Saleh Alias, along with staff from the National Archives of Malaysia Melaka.
The team received a detailed briefing on the organisational structure of the National Archives, its functions and the history of the Memorial’s establishment.
Delegates also toured exhibitions showcasing the nation’s independence journey, the formation of Malaysia, and key archival materials.
The visit to JKKN Melaka and the Proclamation of Independence Memorial served not only as a knowledge-sharing platform but also as an avenue to foster institutional collaboration between UPPANS and Melaka’s cultural and heritage agencies.
