Sarawak Premier Commends CMS’ Green Cement Industry Initiatives
PADAWAN: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg has praised Cahya Mata Sarawak (CMS) Berhad for its green cement industry initiatives which not only support Sarawak’s sustainable development agenda but also align with global efforts to reduce carbon emissions.
According to him, CMS Berhad’s bold move to utilise recovered waste as part of its energy sources and to produce environmentally friendly cement demonstrates the company’s commitment to adopting green technologies and sustainable industrial practices.
“I would like to congratulate CMS for its bold initiative to use recovered waste as part of its energy sources, and to produce—as I was informed just now—eco-friendly cement.
“These are exactly the types of materials we need today to balance carbon emissions, in addition to improving the sustainability of the materials used in the production process,” he said.
He said this during the Groundbreaking Ceremony of the Clinker Line 2 Project at the Mambong Integrated Plant, here on Thursday.
CMS Berhad has invested RM673 million in the project, which is expected to increase clinker production capacity to 1.9 million metric tonnes per year, thereby strengthening the cement supply in Sarawak.
Elaborating further, Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari stressed the importance of a strong cement industry to support the needs of Sarawak’s rapidly developing construction and infrastructure sectors.
“This has enabled Sarawak to continue progressing, particularly through the construction and infrastructure sectors which have driven our economic growth to where it is today,” he added.
Among those present were Deputy Minister for Transport Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Hipni, Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Ir. Aidel Lariwoo, CMS Berhad Group Chairman Dato Seri Diraja Tan Sri (Dr) Mohd Zahidi Zainuddin, CMS Berhad Group Managing Director Dato Sri Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Abdul Taib, and other guests. -UKASnews
