Countdown 2026 Draws Thousands Of Sarawakians, Showcasing Harmony & Spirit Of Unity
KUCHING: The Countdown 2026 celebration, themed ‘Fiesta’, successfully brought together thousands of Sarawakians in an atmosphere filled with harmony and a strong spirit of unity.
Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, who is also the Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, said that the organisation of Countdown 2026 was not merely about celebrating the transition into a new year, but also reflected the enduring unity of the people of Sarawak, enriched by their creativity and shared values.
According to him, the ‘Fiesta’ theme combined elements of art, music, technology and youth creativity, symbolising Sarawak’s journey towards 2030 and aligning with the state’s aspirations for progressive and inclusive development.
“A variety of fresh and dynamic programmes were featured, including performances by local bands, creative dance presentations, as well as local and international artistes who enlivened the celebration this evening,” he said in his message in conjunction with Countdown 2026 at the Kuching Waterfront on Wednesday.
Among the artistes who graced the stage during the night’s celebrations were popular group KRU, renowned singer Dayang Nurfaizah, Naqiu, Jatt Ali, as well as international artiste Judika.
At the same time, he also expressed his gratitude for Sarawak’s progress and achievements under the leadership of the Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg.
This progress, he noted, includes the development of new infrastructure, the growth of the green economy, the strengthening of the tourism sector, and a strong emphasis on education for the younger generation.
“All these efforts clearly demonstrate that Sarawak is moving forward in a structured and holistic manner, founded on strong unity between leaders and the people,” he added.
As Sarawak steps into 2026, he expressed optimism that the state will continue to achieve success, build a peaceful and prosperous society, and elevate Sarawak’s standing to greater heights.
In concluding his message, he called on all Sarawakians to enter the new year with gratitude, renewed spirit, confidence and brighter hopes, in order to ensure that Sarawak continues to progress and prosper. -UKASnews
