DALAT: The flood situation in the Dalat District is reported to be under control and stable following continuous monitoring by the relevant authorities.
Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah said the current flooding differs from last year’s incident, as it was caused by the combination of a king tide and prolonged rainfall, resulting in water overflow in low-lying areas.
“Most of the houses affected by floodwaters are located in low-lying areas,” she said when met after conducting a site visit to assess the flood situation in the district on Sunday.
She also attended the Dalat District Flood Preparedness Briefing held at the Kampung Sungai Ud Multipurpose Hall before commencing site visits to several affected locations.
Meanwhile, the Dalat Assemblywoman said several measures had been discussed to reduce flood risks and minimise damage in the future.
Among the measures identified were raising road levels in low-lying areas that are frequently inundated and experience access disruptions such as Kampung Tanam, Kampung Sungai Ud and the bend at Kampung Teh.
Also present were Mukah Division Resident Datu Kueh Lei Poh, Dalat Civil Defence Officer Muhammad Helmi Halim, as well as representative from the Dalat District Office Rosiah Moris. -UKASnews
