KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Samarahan District has intensified patrols and monitoring in several flood-prone areas following prolonged rainfall affecting parts of the district.
In a statement issued by the APM Samarahan Public Relations and Documentation Unit, the measures are aimed at ensuring conditions in low-lying areas and frequently affected residential zones remain under control, while enabling an early response should water levels rise.
Among the locations under close observation are Kampung Tanjung Bundong Phase 3, Kampung Baru, Kampung Jegoi, Kampung Rembus, Kampung Plaie, Kampung Nangka, Kampung Sungai Empit, Kampung Pangkalan Kuap, Sungai Stigang, Taman APT and Taman Desa Ilmu in Kota Samarahan.
Beginning at around 10 a.m., the patrols involve regular checks on drainage systems, river levels and surrounding areas to assess potential risks and ensure the safety of residents in affected localities.
APM Samarahan also advised the public to remain alert and vigilant to changing weather conditions and their surroundings, particularly those residing in areas known to be vulnerable to flooding.
Meanwhile, residents in the monitored areas are advised to immediately contact the emergency hotline 999 or APM Samarahan at 082-672999 should an emergency arise or if there is a sudden increase in water levels. -UKASnews
