Two Road Projects In Sri Aman Must Be Prioritised Under 13MP
KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Government has been urged to give immediate priority to the implementation of long-delayed road projects in Sri Aman, despite these having been proposed and approved as far back as the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).
Sri Aman Member of Parliament Dato Sri Doris Sophia Brodi said that prolonged delays to basic infrastructure projects not only undermine the well-being of the people, but also run counter to the aspirations of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), which places strong emphasis on inclusive development and public welfare.
She explained that among the projects in question is the upgrading of the Menuang–Langgir Road, covering a distance of 3.3 kilometres to Public Works Department (JKR) R3 standards, with an estimated cost of RM46 million.
Although the project was proposed under 12MP in 2021, it has yet to be implemented.
“The community in Langgir, Gunung Lesong still does not have road access and relies entirely on river transport, which is dangerous due to the presence of crocodiles and is difficult to navigate, especially during low tide,” she said while debating the Motion of Thanks for the Royal Address in the Dewan Rakyat on Thursday.
In addition, Dato Sri Doris also highlighted the upgrading project for the Pantu–Keranggas/Engkeranji Road, spanning approximately 22 kilometres.
The project was approved by the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) under Rolling Plan 1 of 13MP, with a ceiling cost of RM142 million, but remains stalled to this day.
“The existing road, which is gravelled, slippery and hazardous, poses serious difficulties for more than 1,500 residents living along the route.
“Once completed, the project will provide connectivity to nine longhouses, including two schools, namely Sekolah Kebangsaan Keranggas and Sekolah Kebangsaan Engkeranji.”
She stressed that the provision of proper road infrastructure is not merely a matter of physical convenience, but is directly linked to access to education, healthcare services and economic opportunities for rural communities.
In this regard, she called for both projects to be listed as priorities under 13MP, in line with the Royal Address by His Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong, which emphasised the well-being of the people through the development of basic infrastructure. -UKASnews
