KUCHING: The AYS Committee Gathering Night held on 24 January marked an important starting point for AZAM Young Souls (AYS) as the committee for the 2024–2026 term comes together with renewed focus and clarity for the year ahead.
According to a statement, the session provided space for honest conversations on responsibility, leadership and the role young people play within AZAM and the wider community.
“For many committee members, it was a moment to pause, reflect, and reset—before moving forward together,” it said on Monday.
Speaking at the gathering, AZAM Sarawak Board Member and representative of AZAM Youth Engagement Committee (2024-2026) Donald Henry Nohed shared that AYS is entering a more mature and structured phase.
He emphasised that AYS is not just a support unit, but a platform trusted to contribute ideas, energy and leadership that move AZAM forward in a meaningful way.
As AZAM prepares for future collaborations with key agencies and stakeholders, AYS will be expected to step up with greater discipline, transparency and accountability.
This shift reflects AZAM’s belief that youth leadership must be built on values, not popularity and that impact comes from consistency, teamwork and integrity.
“For AZAM, young people are not only participants. They are content creators shaping positive narratives, future leaders influencing decisions, and responsible influencers who can inspire communities and help secure a better future for Sarawak.
“Through AYS, youth are given real opportunities to learn, lead and serve grounded in communication, volunteerism and community engagement.
“This direction is very much in line with the vision championed by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, who continues to emphasise the importance of preparing young people to lead with skills, values and purpose in a rapidly changing world,” the statement said.
To support this journey, AZAM will be organising a dedicated Capacity Building Programme for the AYS Committee (2024–2026) in the coming month.
The programme is designed to strengthen leadership confidence, improve organisational understanding, and equip committee members with practical skills needed to deliver programmes responsibly and professionally.
As AYS looks ahead to 2026, the focus remains clear, which is to grow steadily, serve meaningfully, and lead with intention. With strong guidance, committed youth leaders and shared values, AYS is ready to move forward with confidence. -UKASnews
