Sarawak Para Athletes Win 38 Medals At 13th ASEAN Para Games
THAILAND: Sarawak para athletes delivered an outstanding performance at the 13th ASEAN Para Games 2025/2026, winning a total of 38 medals comprising 13 gold, 15 silver and 10 bronze.
According to a statement by the Sarawak Ministry for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development (KPWK), Malaysia concluded the games with a total of 201 medals consisting of 64 gold, 64 silver and 73 bronze, where Sarawak contributed 38 medals to the national tally, representing 18.9 per cent of Malaysia’s overall medal haul and nearly one in every five medals won by the Malaysian team.
“Para swimming was the biggest contributor with three gold, ten silver and five bronze medals, followed by athletics, whereas tenpin bowling and powerlifting each contributed three gold medals,” it said on Monday.
Several Sarawakian athletes set new records in the sporting event, where Colorine Sijang won gold in the Women’s Discus Throw F40 and F41, while Noshazwani Maisara Marzuki claimed gold in the Women’s Javelin Throw F37, with both athletes achieving records in their ASEAN Para Games debut.
Bibiana Ahmad also made history by winning gold in the Women’s 67 kilogram (kg) powerlifting event, becoming the first Sarawakian woman to achieve this record.
In para swimming, Rusdianto Rusmadi emerged as Sarawak’s top performer with two individual gold medals while Muhd Nur Syyaiful Zulkafli won gold in the Men’s 50 metre Breaststroke.
Bonnie Bunyau Gustin continued his dominance by securing gold in the men’s 80kg powerlifting event.
KPWK Minister Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah attended the Closing Ceremony of the 13th ASEAN Para Games held in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.
She congratulated the Sarawak para athletes on their outstanding achievement, highlighting their contribution of 38 medals as a proud moment for Sarawak and Malaysia.
“The athletes’ discipline, determination and fighting spirit were clearly reflected in their performances including record breaking results and first time gold medal wins which reaffirmed the Sarawak Government’s continued commitment to supporting para sports development and athlete welfare.
“This achievement highlights the dedication, resilience and competitive spirit of Sarawak para athletes further strengthening Malaysia’s standing in regional para sports,” she said. -UKASnews
