Second Sarawak LOC Secretariat Meeting Refines 2027 SEA Games Preparations
KUCHING: The Sarawak LOC Secretariat held its second meeting on Friday to discuss preparations for hosting the 2027 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, scheduled to take place here from 18 to 29 September.
The meeting, chaired by the Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Operation) who is also the Chairman of the Sarawak LOC Secretariat, Datu Hii Chang Kee, focused on detailing the roles of each appointed committee in executing their designated duties.
To streamline preparations, the operations of the Sarawak LOC Secretariat have been divided into four main divisions to carry out various roles.
The Strategic, Governance and Communication Division is headed by Jenny Lee Siak Ne; the Corporate Services and Commercial Affairs Division is led by Asmawaty @ Siti Asmah Ahmad; the Venue Preparations, Games Operation and Stakeholders Experience Division is spearheaded by Abdul Rani Abdullah; while Puvindra Pubeion Jayakumar heads the Digital, Technology and Games Systems Division.
Datu Hii also called upon all committees to play a proactive role in ensuring that every assigned task commences immediately.
Touching on the hosting preparations, he stated that the 2027 SEA Games Torch Run for the Sarawak Cluster is expected to begin next year across all divisions of the state.
To further enliven the programme, he added that roadshows and various other side events will also be held.
For the record, Sarawak will host 17 out of the 38 sports contested in the 2027 SEA Games.
The sports are aquatics, weightlifting, e-sports, gymnastics, golf, cricket, shooting, muay, petanque, squash, taekwondo, tennis, wushu, basketball, tenpin bowling, lawn bowls, and archery.
Additionally, Sarawak has also been given the honour of serving as the venue for the opening ceremony of the prestigious games. — UKASnews
