Sarawak Students Triumph At International Drone Competition In Hong Kong
HONG KONG: Sarawak’s aspirations to become a regional aerospace leader reached new heights at the 2026 Hula for Learning International Drone Competition, held at the prestigious Cyberport Hong Kong.
According to a statement, five schools from Sarawak represented Malaysia and were sponsored by the Sarawak Ministry for Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD), delivering a marvelous performance.
“This secured the schools’ multiple podium finishes against 200 elite teams from Mainland China, South Korea, Thailand, and Hong Kong.
“Facing a competitive field of 120 groups in the Primary category, the Sarawakian teams demonstrated exceptional precision and technical mastery,” it said on Tuesday.
In the Drone AR Shooting and Obstacle Racing category, Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Kwang Chien from Sarikei emerged as champion, while Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Batu Bungan from Mulu, Baram took fifth place.
Meanwhile, in the Drone Cooperative Flight Challenge, SJKC Kwang Chien clinched second place, whereas SK Batu Bungan was in fifth place.
SK Batu Bungan also won the Most Promising Talent Award, out of 200 groups competing.
The Sarawak contingent also included strong performances from SMK Jalan Arang (Kuching), SJKC Chung Hua No. 2 (Kuching), and Woodland International School (Sibu).
These results directly reflect the Sarawak Government’s strategic investment in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education.
“By prioritising digital literacy and providing high-end technology to schools, from urban Kuching to rural Baram, Sarawak has successfully bridged the talent gap and demonstrated the power of inclusive teaching and learning.
“This victory proves that Sarawakian students are not just participants, but world-class competitors on the global stage,” the statement said. -UKASnews
