KUCHING: The Diamond Jubilee Celebration of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Saribas in conjunction with its 60th anniversary of establishment is targeting the collection of RM300,000 for the development of the school.
Deputy Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Mohamad Razi Sitam said the collection target will be realised through several main programmes that are planned in stages throughout the celebration.
According to him, among the main fundraising initiatives is the organisation of a Charity Dinner or Diamond Jubilee Gala Dinner which is proposed to be held in Kuching this June with the participation of more than 300 SMK Saribas alumni from various backgrounds.
“This Gala Dinner is the main platform to raise funds for the development of SMK Saribas, especially through contributions from former students including corporate figures, senior government officials and entrepreneurs,” he said during a press conference of the SMK Saribas Diamond Jubilee Celebration Main Committee here on Tuesday.
He added that apart from the Gala Dinner, the Diamond Jubilee celebration also involves several support programmes including an Open Day, educational exhibitions, sales activities and the organisation of the Diamond Fun Run scheduled for next October.
He added that the celebration not only aims to bring together alumni and school staff, but is also a concerted effort to strengthen the development needs of SMK Saribas' infrastructure and facilities.
SMK Saribas, which was established in 1966, is one of the earliest schools in the Betong Division and this Diamond Jubilee Celebration marks the inaugural event in conjunction with its 60th anniversary.
He also expressed confidence that strong support from alumni, the local community and various stakeholders can help achieve, and even exceed, the set fundraising target. -UKASnews
