Permanent CENTEXS Betong Campus To Be Built, Nine Sarawak Bridges Expected To Be Completed This Year
BETONG: The Sarawak Government is continuing to strengthen human capital development and state infrastructure following the approval of a new building project for the Sarawak Centre of Technical Excellence (CENTEXS) in Betong, with construction expected to commence as early as this year.
According to Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, a site for the skills training centre has already been identified in Betong, and the project is expected to be realised in the near future to provide technical training facilities for the local community.
“The establishment of this training centre will create greater opportunities for youths and the surrounding community to enhance their technical skills and improve workforce employability in the area,” he said.
He told reporters this after officiating at the KPWK Outreach Programme with Strategic Partners: “Kamek Prihatin, Kitak Penting” Betong Zone 2026 at Dewan Masyarakat Spaoh on Saturday.
Also present were Sarawak Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, Deputy Minister for Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam, Betong Member of Parliament Dato Dr Richard Rapu, Beting Maro Assemblyman Dato Razaili Gapor, and Kalaka Assemblyman Mohammad Duri.
In a related development concerning infrastructure, he also revealed that nine bridge projects across Sarawak are expected to be fully completed this year.
These include the Batang Lupar 1 Bridge, Batang Igan Bridge, Batang Krian Bridge, Sungai Limbang Bridge, Batang Lupar 2 Bridge, Batang Paloh Bridge, Batang Saribas 2 Bridge, Sungai Sejingkat Bridge, and Batang Rambungan Bridge.
Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah, who also serves as Sarawak Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development, expressed confidence that all the projects would be completed on schedule, adding that the Public Works Department (JKR) has been instructed to closely monitor their implementation.
He stressed that this measure is crucial to ensure that any issues faced by contractors can be identified and resolved promptly so as not to affect construction progress.
“The successful completion of these strategic infrastructure projects, along with the development of skills training centres such as CENTEXS, will have a significant impact on local economic growth and enhance the wellbeing of the people of Sarawak, particularly in the Betong Division,” he added. -UKASnews
