Infrastructure Development Reflects Sarawak Government’s Commitment To Safeguarding Community Wellbeing
BETONG: Rapid infrastructure development, coupled with a range of people-centric welfare initiatives, continues to reflect the Sarawak Government’s strong commitment to ensuring the wellbeing of its communities.
This was emphasised by Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who noted that development across the state is progressing at a steady pace.
He highlighted the completion of eight bridges last year and the anticipated completion of nine more bridge projects this year, alongside the state’s increasingly robust revenue performance.
“The strength of unity among the people of Sarawak forms the foundation of the state’s development success, enabling various forms of government assistance to be channelled to all targeted groups, from farmers and students to senior citizens and low-income households,” he said.
He was speaking at the officiating ceremony of the KPWK Outreach Programme with Strategic Partners: “Kamek Prihatin, Kitak Penting” Betong Zone 2026, held at Dewan Masyarakat Spaoh on Saturday.
Also present were Sarawak Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, Deputy Minister for Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam, Betong Member of Parliament Dato Dr Richard Rapu, Beting Maro Assemblyman Dato Razaili Gapor, and Kalaka Assemblyman Mohammad Duri.
He also reaffirmed the continued support of the Betong community for the leadership of Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, who has introduced various comprehensive policies and programmes to ensure that no one is left behind in the state’s development agenda.
He expressed confidence that with strong unity and close cooperation among all parties, the state government’s planned development programmes and projects would continue to be implemented more effectively for the benefit of the people of Sarawak.
In his speech, he, who also serves as Minister for Finance and New Economy II, conveyed his appreciation to all strategic partners, including the Chairman of the Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC), for their joint efforts in making the programme a success.
He also expressed hope that more development facilities, such as a permanent CENTEXS campus, could be established in Betong in the future.
According to him, the outreach programme is particularly meaningful for the people, as it enables many matters to be resolved more quickly and conveniently.
For instance, eligible applicants were able to receive their Kenyalang Gold Card directly on the day of the programme, while applications for changes of address on identity cards could be processed within a short period through the participation of the relevant agencies.
Health screening services were also provided for the benefit of the local community.
At the same time, several local needs were highlighted, including the proposed establishment of the Betong One-Stop Early Intervention Centre (OSEIC), the need to expedite welfare assistance applications, and efforts to enhance technological access among rural residents.
The programme also featured a symbolic presentation of Sejambak Kasih Chinese New Year hampers, as well as the presentation of Sarawak Government initiatives such as the Maternity Assistance Scheme (BIS), Endowment Fund Sarawak (EFS), Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC), Senior Citizen Health Benefit (SCHB), and Medical Assistance. -UKASnews
