Discussions On Article 112D Allocation Formula Still Ongoing
KUCHING: Discussions on the allocation formula under Article 112D of the Federal Constitution are still ongoing and have yet to be finalised, although a proposal has already been submitted by the Sarawak Government.
Deputy Prime Minister and Member of Parliament for Petra Jaya, Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof, said the formula must be examined comprehensively before any decision is made.
He explained that the Ministry of Finance (MOF) has held discussions with the Sabah Government and will subsequently engage with the Sarawak Government on the matter.
“The Federal Government is also looking at this from its own perspective, so it is hoped that through these meetings we will be able to finalise the best possible formula to safeguard national interests as well as uphold what is enshrined in the Constitution, where Sabah and Sarawak have special rights in terms of allocations,” he said.
He was speaking to reporters after the annual mosque and surau grant presentation ceremony for the Petra Jaya parliamentary constituency, held at Masjid Darul Ibadah Kampung Semariang Lama here on Saturday.
Datuk Amar Fadillah added that a final decision on the formula will only be made after a report is presented to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) Technical Committee, which he chairs.
For the record, the Sarawak Government has proposed a formula for the return of 20 per cent of the total revenue or taxes collected from Sarawak, to ensure a more equitable and flexible distribution. -UKASnews
