KUCHING: The practice of open houses in conjunction with the Chinese New Year (CNY) reflects the true spirit of unity among the people of Sarawak.
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian said that open houses in Sarawak truly mean openness when all levels of society – regardless of race and religion – come together to celebrate the festival without the need for an official invitation.
"This is what is meant by the development of Sarawak where everyone comes together.
"The development of Sarawak is not divisive and not about extreme polarisation nor about politics all the time," he said.
He said this when met by reporters during a visit to the residence of Batu Kitang Assemblyman Dato Ir Lo Khere Chieng on Wednesday.
The Batu Kawah Assemblyman added that the next five years are very critical for Sarawak because the state is developing rapidly.
Therefore, he said, it is important for the people of Sarawak to continue to maintain this spirit of unity with Chinese New Year being a time to convey good things, not a time to be negative.
"Hopefully these positive things, this positive narrative, can continue throughout the year because when we bring positive things, it is also important for nation building," he explained.
Also present were Senator Dato Ahmad Dato Sri Ibrahim and Chairman of the Padawan Municipal Council Cr Tan Kai. -UKASnews
