Datuk Sebastian Engages Community, Strengthens Unity During CNY Visits
MIRI: The vibrancy of Chinese New Year in the city extended beyond the glow of lanterns and family reunions, as Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew made time to engage with the local community.
Over the second and third days of the festivities, the Piasau Assemblyman visited 24 families around Miri.
The visits were more than customary seasonal calls, serving instead as an avenue to reinforce bonds and nurture goodwill in an atmosphere marked by warmth and camaraderie.
Datuk Sebastian said such festive visits would continue as a gesture of appreciation for the community’s sustained support, while also functioning as a platform to bridge leaders and the people.
“Chinese New Year is not only an important celebration for the Chinese community, but also an ideal occasion to strengthen family ties and foster unity among our multiracial society,” he said when met during one of the visits.
He also conveyed his appreciation to members of the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) and associates for their cooperation and steadfast backing, while extending his wishes for well-being, good health and success to all in the year ahead.
In a related announcement, he said a Chinese New Year Open House and Breaking of Fast event will be held on 21 February, from 5 pm to 9 pm at the Miri Civic Centre.
The event is open to people of all races, providing a platform to bring the community together in a spirit of harmony and mutual respect. -UKASnews
