Multi-Ethnicity Harmony Must Be Inherited By Next Generation
BETONG: The harmony and spirit of unity that has long existed among the multi-ethnic community in Betong must continue to be preserved and inherited by the next generation.
Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu said he was amazed and proud to see the younger generation of the Chinese community in Betong growing up and living in harmony with the Malay and Iban communities.
According to the Layar Assemblyman, the continuity of generations from the young to the elderly clearly proves that the community continues to thrive and has strong roots in Betong.
“The 100th anniversary celebration of the Betong Chinese Temple and Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Chung Hua Betong last year marked over a century of this community being established here.
"We must pass on these 100 years of harmony to generation after generation, for century after century," he said when speaking at the Betong Chinese Community Chinese New Year Dinner at the Che Zhong Khor Betong Moral Uplifting Society Hall on Tuesday.
At the same event, he also announced an allocation of RM30,000 each to five Chinese community organisations in Betong, namely the Che Zhong Khor Betong Moral Uplifting Society, the Betong Buddhist Association, the Betong Chinese Temple Charitable Trust, the Fu Sheng Gong Temple Followers' Association and the Shen Tan Gong Temple Followers' Association. -UKASnews
