Sarawak Government Speeds Up Revival Of Abandoned Housing Project In Maradong
SIBU: The Sarawak Government has taken proactive steps to revive the long-abandoned Taman Muhibbah housing project in Maradong, which has been stalled for more than seven years, in order to safeguard the interests of affected buyers.
Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, said a meeting involving all relevant parties, including legal representatives, has been scheduled to take place at the Pelawan Service Centre on 24 March to formally begin the legal process.
According to him, among the key actions to be taken are the termination of the current developer’s services and the opening of the way for the appointment of a new developer as a ‘white knight’ to take over and restore the project.
He said the project has affected more than 20 buyers who had used their lifetime savings, but are now forced to face uncertainty due to the prolonged delay.
In this regard, he stressed that the situation cannot be allowed to continue and immediate action must be taken to ensure the project returns to its intended course.
At the same time, he, who is also the Pelawan Assemblyman, informed that his ministry is acting as a facilitator by coordinating comprehensive recovery efforts involving all relevant parties.
He added that steps are also being taken to restructure the financial aspects, including bank guarantees and loan facilities, to support the implementation of the project after it is taken over.
He further emphasised that the failure of the existing developer to fulfil its responsibilities, which resulted in the project being abandoned, is unacceptable and that the recovery must be carried out without delay in the interest of the buyers. -UKASnews
