MBKS Takes Immediate Action On Drainage Issue At Jalan Pecky
KUCHING: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng led a second site visit to Jalan Pecky together with councillors, senior officers and the drain maintenance contractor, to take direct action on the clogged roadside drain affecting residents in the area.
According to a statement, this follow-up visit reflects MBKS’ firm commitment to ensuring that the issue is addressed comprehensively, with both immediate mitigation measures and a long-term solution.
“A joint inspection confirmed that the primary cause of the blockage was the collapse of the drain structure beneath the house entrance crossover.
“The deterioration of the aging drain wall has resulted in cavities that trap debris, including plastic containers, pails and accumulated leaves, obstructing water flow and preventing the proper discharge of stormwater.
“Immediate intervention has been carried out through rodding works at the affected sections to restore flow and reduce the risk of water stagnation,” it said on Friday.
Dato Wee directed that a comprehensive long-term solution be expedited, including the full restoration and upgrading of the damaged drainage infrastructure.
According to him, efforts are underway to secure the necessary allocation and approvals to ensure permanent rectification works can proceed as soon as possible.
“This is already my second visit to the site because I want to ensure that this issue is not just managed, but properly resolved.
“Temporary measures are necessary to provide immediate relief, but our priority is a permanent solution that addresses the root cause. MBKS will continue to monitor closely and push for the necessary works to be carried out without delay.
“At the same time, we urge the public to play their part in keeping drains clear by avoiding the disposal of waste into the drainage system, as this contributes to recurring blockages,” he said. -UKASnews
