Bario-Pa Lungan Road Enhancements To Elevate Rural Connectivity
BARIO: Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Office and Deputy Chairman of the Highland Development Agency (HDA) Datuk Gerawat Gala officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for the Completion of Remaining Works for the Proposed Improvement of the Existing Road from Bario to Pa Lungan in Miri Division as part of his working visit to Bario.
The working visit included site inspections of several ongoing and completed infrastructure projects implemented under the Public Works Department (JKR) and RECODA through HDA, reflecting the Government’s continued commitment to strengthening development in the highland areas.
The Bario-Pa Lungan Road project is a key initiative under RECODA aimed at enhancing connectivity for local communities.
Spanning a total length of 12.019 kilometres and built to JKR R1 (Modified) standards, the project comprises gravel and concrete pavement works, earthworks, drainage systems, as well as the construction of a 21.34-metre modular steel bridge.
Upon completion, the upgraded road is expected to provide safer and more efficient access, while facilitating the movement of people and the transport of goods, particularly in areas with strong agricultural potential.
During the visit, Datuk Gerawat also inspected the progress of the water supply project in Pa Lungan, which is nearing completion. The project forms part of the Proposed Construction of Water Supply Project in Bario, Mulu and Telang Usan areas under Sub-Package 5B.
It involves the construction and completion of a new water treatment and supply system serving several settlements, namely Pa’ Ramudu, Pa’ Lungan, Pa’ Mada, Pa’ Dalih and Batu Patong.
Once completed, the water supply project will significantly improve access to clean and treated water for local communities, contributing to better public health and overall quality of life.
The Sarawak Government, through RECODA and HDA, remains committed to accelerating infrastructure development in rural and highland areas, in line with its ongoing efforts to bridge the development gap and uplift the wellbeing of the people. - UKASnews
