UTS Gong Xi Raya Promotes Campus Unity & Exemplifies National Harmony
SIBU: The Gong Xi Raya celebration organised by Universiti Teknologi Sarawak (UTS) is seen as a tangible expression of the enduring spirit of racial and religious unity, in line with the aspirations of national harmony.
UTS Vice-Chancellor Datuk Dr Khairuddin Abdul Hamid said the joint Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Chinese New Year celebrations go beyond a festive event, highlighting the deep-rooted spirit of togetherness that has long characterised Sarawak’s multiracial communities.
According to him, embracing cultural diversity through inclusive celebrations can help foster social integration, especially among youths in universities and colleges.
“Programmes like this serve as a platform to unite campus members from diverse backgrounds while fostering a spirit of mutual respect and understanding,” he said during the event held at the Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud Chancellor Hall, UTS, on Tuesday.
He also stressed that the festive season should be used as an opportunity to strengthen bonds while promoting values such as tolerance, empathy and forgiveness.
The UTS Vice-Chancellor emphasised that within professional and educational settings, differences of opinion are natural but can be addressed constructively through effective communication and mutual respect.
The event took place in a lively atmosphere, featuring cultural dance performances, a King and Queen of Traditional Attire contest and a lucky draw that delighted the campus community.
The Gong Xi Raya celebration also highlighted the role of educational institutions as catalysts for strengthening national unity and promoting harmony among Malaysia’s multiracial communities. -UKASnews
