LIMBANG: Northern Sarawak's strategic position continues to be a major catalyst in strengthening the cross-border economy and expanding the regional market, positioning this region as a vital growth hub in the state.
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said Limbang and Lawas possess unique geographical advantages, sharing borders with Brunei Darussalam, Kalimantan (Indonesia), Sabah and Labuan, which open up significant opportunities for trade and investment.
According to him, these advantages need to be optimally utilised with the support of existing resources to further boost economic development and strengthen cross-border trade networks.
"Our strategic position opens up great opportunities to develop cross-border trade, thus increasing economic activities in this area," he said.
He said this when speaking at the 2026 Limbang District Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri event held at the Limbang Civic Centre, on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Bukit Sari Assemblyman stressed the importance of visiting one another, especially during Aidilfitri, in strengthening bonds and fostering cooperation among Sarawak’s multi-ethnic communities.
He said strong unity is the foundation of the state's political stability, enabling the Sarawak Government under the leadership of Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg to remain focused on development and the wellbeing of the people.
Datuk Amar Awang Tengah added that Sarawak is now on a progressive and inclusive development trajectory, supported by a significant increase in state revenue.
The revenue, he explained, is being utilised to strengthen infrastructure, develop community socio-economy, improve the welfare of the people and boost education as well as skills development.
"Sarawak is also actively exploring new fields such as the digital economy, high-impact technology, renewable energy, the semiconductor industry and aerospace as strategic steps in creating more job opportunities and improving the living standards of the people," he added.
