RM231 Million Allocated To Upgrade Durin-Salim Stretch Of Pan Borneo Highway
SIBU: The Ministry of Works (KKR) has allocated a total of RM231 million this year for the comprehensive upgrading of the Durin-Salim stretch along the Pan Borneo Highway near Sibu Jaya.
Its Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the allocation will focus on upgrading pavement structures and carrying out related improvements along the stretch, which has been reported to be uneven and hazardous to road users.
He said the move follows public complaints regarding the condition of the highway at KM28, where surface settlement issues have raised concerns over road safety.
“I, together with the Pan Borneo Sarawak team and officials from the KKR had previously visited the site to assess the actual condition of the stretch.
“The inspection was important to enable a direct assessment to be carried out, particularly regarding the extent of road surface unevenness and the need for more comprehensive follow-up action,” he said in a statement issued on Friday.
According to the Kapit Member of Parliament, the ministry is currently working with the implementing agencies to complete technical assessments and coordinate implementation plans before physical works commence on site.
He explained that the approach was taken to ensure that the proposed solution is comprehensive and sustainable in effectively addressing the road structure issues in the area.
“Meanwhile, interim maintenance works will continue to be carried out from time to time to ensure road safety and passability are maintained until the upgrading project begins,” he added.
Dato Sri Alexander further emphasised the ministry’s commitment to expediting the initiative and will closely monitor the project’s progress to prioritise the safety and comfort of road users. -UKASnews
