TVET As Economic Catalyst, 58 AGSC Miri Graduates Celebrated
MIRI: Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) continues to play an important role as a driver of the state's economic development by providing skilled workers that meet current industry needs.
Sarawak Minister for Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said development is not solely dependent on ideas, but is built by skilled hands and capable minds.
“Development is not merely driven by ideas, but built by skilled hands and capable minds. Therefore, TVET serves as a key catalyst in supporting various sectors, including infrastructure, tourism, digital technology as well as small and medium enterprises,” he said.
He said this when officiating the 2026 Almacrest Global Skills Centre (AGSC) Miri Accredited Centre Convocation Ceremony here, on Friday.
At the ceremony, a total of 58 graduates were celebrated, reflecting the continued success of TVET in producing highly skilled workers in Sarawak.
The Senadin Assemblyman also stressed Sarawak's commitment to strengthening human capital development through continuous investment in education, aimed at producing a generation that is skilled, innovative and globally competitive.
Commenting on the field of early childhood education, Dato Sri Lee described the role of educators as very significant in shaping the foundation of children's cognitive, emotional and personality development.
"When early childhood educators are trained well, it will create a safe and conducive learning environment, which in turn contributes to nurturing individuals who are more confident and competitive in the future,” he said.
Meanwhile, AGSC Miri Accredited Centre Manager Sterwina Kho Wan Ling said the convocation marked a historic moment that celebrated the success of the first four cohorts of the Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM) Level 3 Early Childhood Education Programme.
According to her, AGSC Miri is committed to providing quality skills training and producing competent and enthusiastic early childhood educators in contributing to community development.
“The graduates celebrated today have not only achieved personal success, but also serve as pioneers in efforts to produce educators capable of shaping future generations,” she said.
The ceremony was also attended by representative of Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Councillor Kelvin Chia Kah Leong, AGSC's top management and parents of the graduates. -UKASnews
