Over RM1 Million Disbursed To 1,239 UNIMAS Students
KOTA SAMARAHAN: University Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) continues to strengthen its commitment to student welfare, with over RM 1 million successfully collected and distributed to 1,239 students through the Majlis Kasih Insani 8 @ Aidilfitri 201y, held at Arena Gemilang DeTar Putra.
The annual event, organised by the Endowment and Waqf Division since 2019, has become an important platform for supporting students in need, particularly ahead of the Aidilfitri celebrations.
The programme was officiated by the Chairman of the UNIMAS Board of Directors, Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Sulong Matjeraie, alongside the UNIMAS Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr Ahman Hata Rasit.
In his speech, Professor Dr Ahmad Hata emphasised that the Kasih Insani initiative reflects the principles of social justice or equity, which serve as the backbone of the university’s education ecosystem.
According to him, this approach ensures that every student receives support based on their respective needs, whether in terms of finance, academics or personal development.
“UNIMAS is not just an institution of knowledge, but a compassionate community that consistently ensures no student is left behind due to life’s constraints.
“This initiative also demonstrates the university’s commitment to building a holistic support ecosystem, not only form an academic perspective but also in terms of the students’ overall well-being,” he said.
This year, a total of students benefited from various forms of assistance, including pocket money, endowment scholarships, laptops, and food aid.
Amont the highlights was the provision of food coupons worth RM500 to too students, as well as the contribution of laptop devices equipped with special assistive technology for visually impaired students.
At the same time, Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS) also contributed thousands of meals ready-to-eat (MRE) boxes, while Telekom Malaysia Berhad contributed basic food aid to the students involved.
The ceremony was further graced a symbolic presentation of contributions to student representatives as a sign of the university’s continuous support in ensuring their welfare and academic continuity protected. -UKASnews
