Longhouse Visit Strengthens Rural Development Agenda
SARIKEI: Visits to several longhouses within the Sarikei Parliamentary constituency continue to strengthen the rural development agenda by focusing on residents' basic needs and the improvement of land transport infrastructure.
Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, who is also the Member of Parliament for Sarikei and Repok Assemblyman Dato’ Sri Huang Tiong Sii, said that good road development can stimulate the rural economy and improve the living standards of the local community.
According to him, the improving infrastructure facilities at present are the result of the government's continuous efforts to ensure that the people's welfare remains protected.
“As a people's representative, I will continue to go on the ground to understand the community's needs. The development of basic infrastructure is extremely important and has a significant impact on the daily lives of residents,” he said.
He said this during a visit to several longhouses in Sungai Petai, Jalan Kwong Ming/Minah, and Sungai Selangan on Saturday.
Among the longhouses visited were Rh Pitre Ambit Ak Tayup, Rh Jugah Ak Dunggat, Rh Banun Ak Ansi, Rh Nyalau Ak Mamat, Rh Bansa Ak Nanggal, and Rh Sabah Ak Sawong.
During the visit, he also presented assistance for door projects to 142 longhouse units for the residents' use, reflecting the government's continuous commitment to supporting rural communities.
Elaborating further, he expressed his appreciation for the continuous support of the people throughout his more than a decade of service as the representative for the area.
He stated that various development projects have been implemented, including the upgrading of urban and rural roads, drainage systems, the construction of access roads to longhouses, and the concreting of village roads to facilitate connectivity for residents.
Meanwhile, Tuai Rumah Pitre Ambit expressed his appreciation for Dato’ Sri Huang Tiong Sii’s commitment to bringing development to the area.
According to him, through the implementation of the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) and cooperation with various agencies, including local authorities, significant funding has been allocated for local development.
He added that various facilities, including schools, houses of worship, and basic infrastructure, have been upgraded, thereby contributing to agricultural economic growth and the community's wellbeing.
At the same time, he also expressed his appreciation to the Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Abang Openg, for the development allocations provided, particularly in upgrading the road network and implementing infrastructure projects that benefit the people of Sarikei.-UKASnews
